Relatively Stupid
by Pat Boone

While browsing Google news the other day, I came across the following article: Belief in God a 'product of human weaknesses': Einstein letter.

I'm a rowdy fellow for God by times, so the title intrigued me to say the least. I "pfffft" my way through comments by Einstein and company, smirking, and shaking my head at various intervals throughout the read.

To be truthful, I had a hard time coming up with exactly what I wanted to say in this article. All I knew was that I wanted to say something.

I struggled with whether I should delve into the creation/flood debate, or simply rant about silly comments like this.

Since there is so much literature on creation, and individuals better equipped to debate it, I chose to rant. It won't take long, I promise.

Let the rant begin.

I didn't know Einstein personally. I guess he was a pretty smart guy, and he had a theory or two about what makes the world tick. I certainly respect his brain power, but I have no idea what he was like as a person. So God, forgive me if I have it wrong...

How could someone seemingly so smart make a statement that stupid? There's no other way to describe it.

First of all, being a scientist, did he base his comments on observation? Or did he arrive at them mathematically? Neither one, is my guess.

Secondly, how could he have looked at the precision, the order, the sheer magnitude of our universe, in the level of detail that he did, and then say: "There is no God"?

If Einstein came to me right now to explain his reasoning, I'd be like John Candy in Uncle Buck when he was on the phone to his girlfriend, "Yeah, but...but I just...I just...but I...d'ooooh!"

The sad part is, many scientists around the world take Einstein's comments as "proof" that God does not exist; it's hilarious and frustrating all rolled into one.

Hilarious in that, my parents warned me of this type of behaviour back in grade school. I wish I had a nickel every time I heard, "If Jimmy jumped off a bridge into traffic, would you?"

Yet, grown men and women educated by the "greatest" universities in the world ignore this simple analogy and just go along with "Jimmy" instead of researching it out for themselves.

Hence the frustrating part: you can't make them see how they're behaving. Trained scientists led by feelings and beliefs instead of facts, how stupid is that? Sure doesn't make for objective study.

It only makes sense to reserve judgement until you have enough facts to judge, and that applies to any decision you need to make.

I'm no Einstein, but...that's probably a good thing, from what I've read.~
